HALBER MOND
A text by Roland Schimmelpfennig with Karoline Gable, Paul-Jakob Dinkelacker and the voice of Corinna Harfouch
HALBER MOND is the story of the travelling circus Narva, which pitches its tent in the evening in a suburb not unlike Neukölln. The old circus director and his blind daughter on the tightrope have enchanted audiences in many places around the world; their magic has allowed audiences to overcome boundaries and experience the impossible.
But how reliable is the moment of success, of magic, with which theatre, circus, music and art repeatedly present us? What happens when the longed-for does not materialise?
In a way, Roland Schimmelpfennig is also a kind of magician, a magician of words, with an extensive oeuvre of plays and novels that have been performed around the world. Roland Schimmelpfennig and Bernhard Glocksin met shortly after beginning their theatre careers. As a greeting at the end of his time at the NKO, Roland Schimmelpfennig sent him HALBER MOND, a poetic metaphor about what makes us all – theatre people and lovers – happy, troubled and oppressed. Theatre, with all its glamour and failures.
Karoline Gable and Paul Jakob Dinkelacker stage and set Schimmelpfennig’s text to music as a reference to a theatre in which the spotlight is still on the words, as in a circus on the circus ring or the trapeze. And because the absent also unfolds its power in this wondrous circus, a voice appears, invisible and yet so present. That of a – let’s just say: an equal legend of the theatre – Corinna Harfouch.

HOLY BITCH!
Myth Music Cabaret by Elli Papakonstantinou, concept/text: Elli Papakonstantinou, Music: Maria Papageorgiou, Petros Bouras
The winged Gorgons, the three sisters with long claws and bright red tongues, live in exile in Elon Musk’s new world. Two of them have opened a gloomy, surreal shop – okay, it’s a simple bakery, but they bake bread there every day for Auguststraße in gentrified Berlin.
And the third sister? The terrifying Medusa? In the meta-cabaret HOLY BITCH! we bake bread and produce ideas for a world without Elon under the gaze of the beautiful and laughing Medusa.
HOLY BITCH! is a surreal revue of transformation. From opera arias to pop or punk sounds, between animated film in real time and live show: a Greek-German quintet of wildly determined ‘holy bitches’, witches and bakers act out myths that inhabit our everyday chaos as dreams, voices and wishes. Because they speak our colloquial language, use our devices and sabotage our AI chats.
In the end, the HOLY BITCHES call for resistance: Western theatre with its stories of gods, monsters, men, sex, drugs and deception needs to be transformed. With Medusa, the audience also liberates itself for a departure into a different future.
HOLY BITCH was created in close collaboration in Athens and Berlin for the season finale HIMMEL ÜBER NEUKÖLLN.
