DADDY UNPLUGGED

Once irreplaceable, then dispensable and now? This is the question asked by the cast and the band, whose leader Peer Neumann inherited 10,000 records after the death of his father.

Hanno, Frieda and Maria ask themselves the same question in the glare of the hospital corridor while they wait for news about their fathers’ condition. The three’s guilty conscience gnaws at them, everyday life presses on, anger at the past and present takes hold – alongside a warm look, a childish wish and this silly paternal humor… Memories of touching and depressing moments overlap and mix with the present, creating images of fathers: There is the violently strict father, the loving dad with the secret and the cool daddy who never wanted to grow up. Where there were bare walls, there are memories. Where words fail, only a song can help – and when the voice fails, a dance. At the invitation of the Neukölln Opera, the much-played author couple Lutz Hübner and Sarah Nemitz wrote a theater text, supplemented with personal contributions and memories of all those involved. Peer Neumann arranges a musical family album based on vinyl records, old pop, rock and jazz songs, from which Alexandra Liedtke creates a moving, poetic evening of musical theater about remembrance, coming to terms with the past and, last but not least, the diversity of love between parents and children. After the theater, the stage becomes an exhibition and invites you to linger.
